About Us

EXPERIENCE is what sets us apart from all the other beauty schools. We’ve been in business over 50 years and nationally accredited for over 35 years.

Accreditation means we go beyond State Board requirements and meet the highest standards in the industry. We know the school business. We are organized, friendly, professional and have successfully trained thousands of students.

MULTIPLE products and technique variety! There’s absolutely no benefit in training with a product school like Redken, Toni & Guy, Paul Mitchell or Aveda. Don’t be “brainwashed” into thinking they give you a better education.

HIGH passing rate at State Board. Only Toledo Academy of Beauty gives its students a “mock” state board test similar to the one you’ll take in Columbus.

We even send our instructors periodically to Columbus so they know first-hand how the state board test is given.

KNOWLEDGEABLE, friendly and professional instructors. They are known for their patience, communication skills and the one-on-one time they spend with students to perfect their skills.

STATE-OF-THE-ART is our new spa school on Navarre Ave. (in Oregon). Leaded glass doors, luxury European shampoo bowls, pedicure thrones with back massagers, ultra modern student styling stations, separate esthetician area, and the soothing smell of aromatherapy candles makes this school like no other. SEEING IS BELIEVING!

JOB opportunities are what we’re all about. From working in a Salon to a high end spa, from a photo shoot to a movie set or even on a cruise ship or in a doctor’s office, we can get you there.

Our single focus is not selling products, but your success as a highly marketable and sought after beauty professional with skills that can take you wherever you want to go.

Q:  What is the difference between your school and a product school like Redken, Toni & Guy, Paul Mitchell or Aveda?

A:  Product schools are generally a franchise school in which they primarily use their own product and method of teaching so when you work in a salon you will use their product. They would like you to think that they offer you a better education then we do or you can get a better job. This is absolutely not true at all! In fact, very few salons use one product line.

Think about it; wouldn’t life be dull if you had only one choice for a car, or one style of jeans, or only one color for a lipstick or nail polish? So why would you want to go to a school that only teaches and uses one product line? You deserve a complete education at a school like Toledo Academy of Beauty. One that is fun. Where beauty, science and art comes together to give you the best education possible, with no emphasis on just one product line.

Q:  What does accreditation mean?

A:  Accreditation means that a school has been evaluated by a team of experts in the field of cosmetology and found to meet the highest standards.

Some of these standards include:

>> Current books and equipment
>> Current curriculums which are periodically updated
>> Instructors have training experience beyond minimum requirements
>> Safe and modern facilities
>> Fairness in all financial transactions
>> Employment assistance
>> Graduate follow-up

This is why educators and high school counselors recommend prospective students to choose an accredited school.  It assures you are going to a reputable school.

Q:  Are all schools accredited?

A:  Definitely not! All beauty schools must be approved by the state board, but these are only minimum requirements.  We’re proud of our national reputation and its results – thousands of successful graduates in salons all across the country.  Many are salon owners, award-winning stylists, platform artists, color specialists, nail technicians and estheticians.

Compare our schools to others and see why Toledo Academy of Beauty makes the difference.

Q:  Why choose a multiple product school?

A:  As we mentioned before, we don’t associate ourselves with one product line or teaching method. Variety is the spice of life! We train our students using many of the top beauty products.

Therefore, every student has knowledge of the latest product developments and the most up to date techniques and styles. We are truly professional.

We believe in giving back to the community. Below are just some of the ways we give back to the community and what really makes us “Beautiful”.

We are proud sponsors of Salons against Domestic Abuse and its “Cut it out” program. In fact, if you call our Executive Office at (419) 478-6660, we will send you (for free) a “Cut it out” lapel pin and make a donation on your behalf to this national organization.

We are a regular contributor to the Feed Lucas County program. This program provides poor school age children with hot, healthy and balanced meals during the summer when their school lunch program ends. Since its inception in 2002, it has provided more than 1 million meals.

We are a participant in the Salvation Army’s “Tool for School” drive. For one month during the summer, we will help collect needed school supplies and clothing for any school age child in our county who needs help with these items.

We donate beauty service gift certificates to several local high schools to help support their after prom event. This is to encourage students to have a drug and alcohol free environment and for students to continue having fun and make memories with their class mates.

We developed a “Good Grooming” program for area Brownies and Girl Scout Troops. For a nominal fee, the troops can visit our school and receive a shampoo and style and/or manicure. Next, a member of our staff gives each girl a brochure on Good Grooming & Hygiene and explains how important it is to take care of your hair, skin & nails.

We continuously donate hair to Locks of Love, a charity that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of eighteen with medical hair loss.

We also can’t leave out our “furry” friends. The ethical treatment of dogs and cats is important to us. The school owners have rescued and/or adopted many unwanted dogs and cats and have long been supporters and contributors to animal shelters including the Toledo Area Humane Society and Paws & Whiskers cat shelter.

Our school is located at 3341 Navarre Ave., in the Big Lots Plaza. We offer the Cosmetology, Cosmetology & Advanced Program, Esthetician & Advanced Program, and Manicuring & Advanced Program. The school has a total of 8,000 sq. ft.

Toledo Academy of Beauty Culture – East is licensed by the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology, accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences and approved by the State Department of Education.  We are also members of the Better Business Bureau of Toledo and Chamber of Commerce.
